Girl Scouts was one of my earliest introductions to community service. From 2013 through 2024, service became a regular part of my life and taught me that helping others does not always require doing something big. Sometimes making a difference starts with simply noticing a need and being willing to help.
Throughout my 11-year Girl Scout journey, I participated in many different types of service. I picked up trash in the community, collected socks and shoes, participated in book drives, made sandwiches for MUST Ministries, helped feed people experiencing hunger, and donated children's pajamas to homeless shelters. I also made and distributed cards for senior citizens, veterans, and children who were sick.
As I grew older, I also had opportunities to help younger Girl Scouts and support community activities, including Halloween and Easter festivals and other events for children and families. Each experience showed me a different way to serve and helped me understand that leadership can be as simple as showing up, helping where you are needed, and treating people with kindness.
During my Girl Scout journey, I earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award, Girl Scout Silver Award, and the President's Volunteer Service Award. I am proud of those recognitions, but what means the most to me is that Girl Scouts helped make service a part of who I am. What began when I was a little girl became an 11-year foundation of giving back that I continue to carry with me today.
