Mentoring the Next Generation
Being part of River Ridge Cheer has given me some of my favorite high school memories, and Youth Cheer Camp has given me an opportunity to share that experience with younger girls in our community. In 2023, 2024, and 2025, I volunteered at the River Ridge Youth Cheer Camp, helping younger participants experience what it is like to learn from and cheer alongside high school cheerleaders.
During camp, I helped participants learn cheers, chants, routines, and basic cheer skills while encouraging them to work together, try new things, and have fun. Working with younger cheerleaders has taught me patience and reminded me how important encouragement can be, especially when a child is nervous or learning something for the first time.
Returning to the camp for three years made this experience especially meaningful to me. I went from being one of the younger cheerleaders who looked up to older athletes to becoming one of the high school cheerleaders younger girls could look up to. Being able to encourage the next generation of River Ridge cheerleaders has shown me that some of the best parts of being on a team are the traditions and confidence you get to pass on to someone else.
