Serving in UpStreet at Woodstock City Church gives me the opportunity to spend my Sunday mornings working with kindergarten-aged children. UpStreet is the church's elementary ministry, where children learn about faith through Bible lessons, worship, activities, and time with their small groups.
As a volunteer, I help support the children in my group, participate in activities with them, encourage them during lessons and discussions, and help create an environment where they can have fun while learning. Kindergarteners have a lot of energy and personality, so serving them has taught me patience, flexibility, responsibility, and how to communicate in a way that younger children can understand.
One of my favorite parts of UpStreet is the consistency. For three years, I have had the opportunity to return on Sunday mornings and continue serving kindergarten-aged children. I am not simply helping at one event—I get to build relationships, see familiar faces, learn the children's personalities, and watch them grow. This experience has taught me that making an impact does not always require doing something big. Sometimes it means being dependable, continuing to show up, and making sure a child knows that someone is happy to see them.
