As a Junior Cheer Coach with the Cherokee Youth Football Association (CYFA), I had the opportunity to coach and mentor younger cheerleaders throughout their season. I helped teach cheers and routines, supported practices, prepared the girls for games, and encouraged them as they developed their skills and confidence. I celebrated their progress, supported them when they struggled, and worked to be someone they could look to as a positive example.
Being a coach gave me a different perspective on cheerleading. Instead of focusing only on my own performance, I learned to think about how I could help someone else improve and succeed. The experience taught me patience, responsibility, communication, and the importance of encouraging younger athletes and helping them believe in themselves.
