The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Academy has shown me that leadership is much more than holding a title or being recognized for your accomplishments. True leadership is rooted in service, integrity, and a willingness to invest in the people and communities around you.
Through this experience, I have learned that local leaders make decisions every day that have a direct impact on the lives of others. Watching community leaders lead with purpose has inspired me to become more intentional about using my own gifts and talents to make a positive difference wherever I am called to serve.
As someone who is passionate about helping others discover their confidence, leadership potential, and purpose, MYLA has reinforced my belief that leadership is not about asking, “What can I accomplish?” but rather, “How can I use my voice, my gifts, and my experiences to serve others well?” It is a lesson I will carry with me long after this program has ended.

Selected to participate in the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Academy, I had the opportunity to learn directly from community leaders and gain a deeper understanding of how local government shapes the lives of those it serves. This experience strengthened my commitment to servant leadership and reminded me that meaningful change often begins at the local level.
